Starting Kindergarten
Starting primary school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.
Read the Getting ready for primary school guide for detailed tips and checklists.
Before your child starts Kindergarten
Before your child begins, all families meet with our principal. This is a time to share:
- medical conditions or allergies
- learning support needs
- family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.
Parent orientation and information session
Our orientation session informs parents of:
- what the school offers
- the staff and our P&C
- OOSH Sunshine Kidz
- curriculum, personalised learning and social / emotional skills
- school readiness
- health, attendance and school hours
- eating at "big school"
- our school core values
- communication with your school
- road safety
- buddy program and student kindergarten transitions
- uniforms
- our school's social story
Parents and carers join information sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.

The first day of Kindergarten is a big event in your childd's life - and that of your entire family. To help you make the most of the day and enjoy the experience, here are some helpful tips:
The night before
- lay out your child's clothes, shoes and socks
- make your child's morning tea and lunch and put it in the fridge
- help your child pack their school bag
- pack a spare pair of underpants, socks andd a change of clothes. Let your child know these are there in case they have any toilet accidents at school
On the day
- have confidence in your child and let them dress themselves
- help put their lunch and drink bottle in their bag
- apply sunscreen and get your child to wear their hat on the way to school.
- remember to take photos!
- make sure you pick your child up on time.
